Ingredients:

For the Dough:

  • 4 sticks butter (melted)
  • 1 large egg
  • 4 to 5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon tahini
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 cup walnuts (chopped)

For the Syrup:

  • 3 cups sugar
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice

Directions:

  1. Make the Syrup: In a saucepan, combine water and sugar, and bring to a boil.
    • Boil for 10 minutes, then add lemon juice.
    • Remove from heat, add 1 cup molasses, and let the syrup cool.
  2. Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl, mix melted butter, flour, tahini, walnuts, baking powder, and egg until well blended.
  3. Bake the Dough: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • Press the dough mixture evenly into the bottom of an ungreased medium-sized baking tray.
    • Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until lightly browned.
  4. Combine with Syrup: Remove the tray from the oven, and pour the cooled syrup over the baked dough.
  5. Serve: Allow the dessert to absorb the syrup completely before serving.
